This year’s Gala is Thursday, April 13, 2023 at Embassy Suites by Hotel Conference Center Hotel San Marcos. The black-tie optional evening will include a pre-Gala reception, silent auction and exciting program to showcase important developments with CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital – San Marcos. This year’s entertainment will be Sundance Head 2016 winner of The Voice coached by Blake Shelton. Throughout the course of Sundance Head’s career, he has written and recorded with the likes of ZZ Top, had three Number 1 songs on the Texas Music charts, and toured with some of the top artists in the business. His latest accomplishment, his brand-new album STAINED GLASS AND NEON, produced by iconic songwriter and artist Dean Dillon, may just be his most outstanding achievement yet. There are numerous sponsorship opportunities available.
We make our community hospital a better place for our friends, neighbors, and visitors. We are proud our gifts have a significant impact on the health and well-being of our community. This year CHRISTUS HEALTH 1869 Society Associate Giving Campaign was generously supported by CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital – San Marcos Associates. Over 60 participants contributed to the campaign and together raised $22,000 to supplement equipment purchases.
The Herff Society honors the legacy of Dr. Ferdinand Ludwig Herff, a founding physician of Santa Ros infirmary. Born in Darmstadt, Germany in 1820, Dr. Herff emigrated to Texas in 1847. He helped form the Bexar County Medical Society in 1853, and in 1869, he became one of the first physicians in San Antonio to associate with Santa Rosa Infirmary.
A renowned physician, Dr. Herff is credited with performing Texas’ first appendectomy in 1818, followed by the nation’s earliest gastrostomy in 1879. He also served as the first dean of Santa Rosa, School of Nursing that opened in 1903. Dr. Herff performed his last surgery at age of 87 and died at his home on the San Antonio River in 1912. Five generations of Doctors Herff have served this community and Santa Rosa since 1850.
In honorary of Dr. Herff, and the physicians who contribute to our ministry each day, the Herff Society provides all physicians active and retired, the opportunity to financially invest in CHRISTIS Santa Rosa Hospital – San Marcos.
Physicians who make a gift of $1,000 or more will be recognized on the Herff Society panel and on the Annual Giving panel on the Wall of Honor.

Every Baby Matters Mission (EBMM) is a free home visitation program offered to mothers whose infants are born at CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital – San Marcos (CSRH-SM). Participating families are visited by a registered nurse who provides a medical assessment on mother and baby and parenting education. This program helps bridge the gap between waiting the standard 6-week post-partum visit with the doctor. Also, the program addresses medical and emotional risks in mother and baby and links families with community resources.
